About Nokia Lumia 1320:
Realizing the potential of big phones in the market today, Nokia has released 2 giants: the Nokia Lumia 1520 & 1320, the former being a high-end phone while the latter being a more affordable one. Now, when Nokia has also joined the party with its 2 new Windows phones, phablets are no more exclusive province of Android. The Lumia 1320 seems to be filling the gap between Lumia 625 & 1520. It has specs that make a good package but can't awestruck you individually. Now let's dig out more about this big Windows phone.
Windows Phone 8 is the operating system of Lumia 1320. It has got the Black update by Nokia. The UI has been squeezed to fit the big display & it's pretty nicely done. You get an additional column of the Live Tiles, thanks to the big screen. The 1.7 GHz dual-core processor of the device has no issues with the UI & it's smooth as silk. You get smoother performance & more battery life than most Android phones of this range, but on the other hand, you've to settle for Windows app store which isn't as populated as Google Play; but the good thing here is it's getting populated steadily & quite fast too.
Build & Design:
While making Lumia 1320, Nokia has used that signature design strategy which the Finnish firm has used in other products of the series. It quite looks like Lumia 625, but much bigger in size. Its matte finished polycarbonate body is little curvy. Corners are rounded, unlike Lumia 1520 which has squared off corners. Its smooth back gives a premium feel while holding the device. The uni-body design restricts you from taking out the battery, although the back panel is removable. With dimensions of 164.2x85.9x9.8 mm, this phone is gigantic. You can't even think of using it with only 1 hand. The big size accounts for its heavy weight too, which is 220 gm. Once again, Nokia hasn't compromised with the build quality of the handset. It feels sturdy & durable & indeed, it is.
Screen size or display is the defining feature of Lumia 1320. It homes a 6 inch big IPS LCD touchscreen. The maximum resolution is 720x1280p. Although it isn't packed with a full HD display & pixel density of 245 ppi seem mediocre with the screen size, the 720p display of Lumia 1320 does its job very well. Nokia has used Clear Black Technology , that has improved the quality of display of the device. Colours reproduced are well saturated & contrast level is phenomenal. Display is sharp & bright enough to see under direct sunlight & viewing angles are also good. It's brilliant for watching videos, read e-books or anything else. It is protected by Corning's latest Gorilla Glass 3. Touch is super sensitive & you can also use the phone with your gloves on.
Lumia 1320 has got weaknesses too & unfortunately it's the camera unit. Earlier, Nokia has done so much good work in smartphone imaging field & now surprisingly it has equipped a phone which is priced above 20k INR, with a mediocre 5 MP rear & a VGA front-facing camera. That's sounds a bit underwhelming. But the 5 MP snapper does its job pretty fine. Outdoor, images are rich with lots of detail. But it makes the subject a little cold while shooting inside. An LED flash is there to assist the camera under such conditions. It is capable of recording 1080p videos at frame rate of 30 fps. 5 MP rear camera is still fine but don't expect anything from that VGA front-facing camera.
Lumia 1320 has got quite some stuff under its hood. It packs a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 chip which has 2 cores. Adreno 305 is assigned the work of processing graphics & a gigabyte of RAM helps in multi-tasking or performing heavy tasks. It performs fast, free from any hiccup. Performance is smooth, in fact, better than most of the Android competition the 1320 is gonna face. The Snapdragon chipset handles anything you want, with ease.
Battery & Storage:
Lumia 1320 gets its juice from a non-removable 3400 mAh Li-Ion battery. Battery life is another criteria where it excels the Android devices of the price point. The 3400 mAh juice packs has enough juice for this beast to last over a day. Battery life of the device is impressive & it can even last up to 2 days on normal usage. Internal memory of the device is only 8 GB, but it can be expanded via an SD card to get another 64 GB of storage.
Nokia Lumia 1320 is "team game". It hasn't got any spec that can give you goose bumps in particular, but it's a good overall package. Camera is weak link of the device, but Nokia wants to sell Lumia 1320 for its giant screen & vibrant display & it doesn't disappoint on that front. You also get smooth overall experience & brilliant battery life in addition.
